SIMOTICS Siemens low voltage motors for mains or frequency converter operation
SIMOTICS Siemens offers the widest range of low voltage motors worldwide. SIMOTICS three-phase motors are the optimum choice for all applications in the power range from 0.09 to 5300 kW. The motors can be connected directly to the mains or powered by frequency converters for variable speed operation. There are several types of SIMOTICS Siemens motors:
1) SIMOTICS GP general purpose motors – Lightweight for standard applications
Aluminum framed general purpose motors are suitable for a wide range of standard drive applications in industrial environments. The design and architecture of the motors provide maximum flexibility and minimum installation costs. Users benefit from built-in lifting lugs, screw-on feet, reinforced bearing end shields with optimum mechanical properties and easily accessible terminal boxes. Encoders, brakes and separately driven fans can also be easily added. Due to their particularly low weight, they are suitable for use in pumps, fans and compressors. But they can also be used reliably in conveyor systems and hoists.
The proven SIMOTICS GPs are network-optimized and available in efficiency classes up to IE4. All motors have the same drive shaft height. As a result, there is no difference in shaft height, which simplifies the maintenance or replacement of motors. Thanks to the same drive shaft height for all efficiency classes, upgrading to more efficient motors is very easy. Line-optimized motors can also be operated with converters.
2) SIMOTICS SD heavy duty motors
Heavy duty motors with rugged gray cast iron housings are the first choice for all critical applications in normal industrial applications as well as in harsh environments. They work reliably in the temperature range from -50°С to +60°С. Degrees of protection up to IP66 and a coating system up to C5 (marine) allow operation in damp, dusty or vibrating environments, as well as in aggressive environments. This makes them ideal for the petrochemical and general manufacturing industries. Their design ensures optimum heat dissipation and thus ensures very compact dimensions. The modular platform concept offers the same control as the General Purpose series. This results in a shorter design phase and easier spare parts management.
3) SIMOTICS XP explosion-proof low-voltage motors
The explosion-proof version of the low-voltage motor of the SIMOTICS XP series is now available in the entire power range from 0.25 to 460 kW for gas group IIB as well as for gas group IIC. The use of the Ex db (eb) IIC option is only necessary if particularly dangerous gases such as hydrogen or acetylene can be released. If these two gases are not available, the Ex db (eb) IIB option can be used in any other environment with a risk of gas explosion.
Typical uses and applications:
1) The oil and gas industry is characterized by extreme demands on the drive technology used. This applies not only to the high risk of explosion inherent in these types of resources, but also to the place of their use.
2) Chemical Industry – In the chemical industry, flammable gases, liquids and solids are converted and processed through a variety of processes that are often complex. There is a risk of explosion of many different plant components, for example due to flammable solvents or due to the fact that so-called hybrid mixtures can be formed during special work processes. They contain both gas and dust which are potentially explosive and have a low minimum ignition energy. Therefore, the motor used must operate continuously and efficiently even in chemically aggressive environments.
3) Food industry – in some areas of the food industry, fine dust is generated in silos, mills and conveyor systems, which can lead to dangerous explosions. Flour dust explosions, for example, are considered particularly dangerous in grain processing and bread production. Our SIMOTICS XP motors with dust explosion protection Ex tb and Ex tc are specially designed for these hazardous situations. Their dust-tight housing – IP65 rated for zone 21 – prevents the critical accumulation of dust inside. The surface temperature of their hull is limited to such an extent that the surrounding dusty atmosphere cannot ignite. The SIMOTICS XP ventilation system is also designed to prevent sparks. The special conductive coating effectively prevents any electrostatic charge or discharge.
